Play Therapy For Children with Neurodevelopment Disorders
Come explore how play therapy can be a viable and effective treatment for neurodevelopmental disorders!
This training will focus on learning play therapy approaches and interventions that address the core struggle areas of children with autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental disorders which include: social skill deficits, emotional regulation challenges, relationship development, concentration and focus issues, and anxiety struggles.
Evidence supported play therapy approaches, assessment procedures, guidelines for implementing play therapy interventions, and several structured play therapy techniques will be highlighted. Several modalities including experiential participation, video examples, lecture, and case study illustrations will be presented.
1) Participants will understand how to use play therapy approaches to treat neurodevelopmental disorder including autism spectrum disorder and ADHD. 2) Participants will learn about evidence supported play therapy practices for working with children and adolescents affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.
3) Participants will participate in and learn several structured play therapy interventions for children and adolescents affected by neurodevelopmental disorders.
4) Participants with learn about special considerations in implementing play therapy approaches with children with neurodevelopmental disorders. 5) Participants will gain an overview of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders to assist in play therapy treatment planning.
Dr. Grant specializes in play therapy techniques with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Grant also specializes in working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodevelopmetnal Disorders, and Developmental Disabilities and is the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an Autism treatment using Play Therapy, behavioral therapy, and relationship development approaches. Dr Grant is also trained in an offers EMDR therapy, a specialized training focused on helping clients dealing with PTSD and trauma related issues.
Dr. Grant has authored several publications and has written four books on the subjects of play therapy, Autism, and ADHD including the bestselling AutPlay Therapy handbook. He is a professional board member for Stars for Autism and is a contributing writer for the Missouri Autism Report. Dr. Grant conducts various presentations and workshops on topics such as play therapy and Autism. Dr. Grant has conducted trainings and workshops throughout the United States and has presented at various area and national conferences including the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Association for Play Therapy.
