Why am I so tired???
So we all know that life is hard right now, yeah? But it just feels so incredibly different than anything we've experienced to date...I mean, 2 telehealth sessions feel like 10 in-person sessions some days, and other days it is a struggle to even lift my head from the pillow! March had 1,375 days in it, and April had 4 total hours, and now it's somehow MAY?! Time and space are messing with us. I feel like we are in an episode of the X-Files, and I'm not ok with it...
But, like everyone else, I am learning to adapt.
Recently, I have found myself struggling with the WHY of it all...why am I so tired...why does it feel like every step forward is like trudging through mud...why am I falling into bed at the end of the day with no energy left on the table??
Thankfully, I have found some answers! You internet savvy folks may have already made your way to these resources, but I just wanted to share them in one concise list. These are some resources explaining the WHY we are all struggling with...and also explain why we should cut ourselves a little slack during these difficult times...click the links below to find out more!
- Bruce Perry (brain guru) has developed an 8 part video series discussing the impact of stress and trauma on the brain and it's ability to function during this pandemic.

- and The National Geographic even weighs in on the phenomenon of "Zoom Fatigue"
Now, more than ever, it is vital that we clinicians nurture ourselves so that we may be able to show up for our clients and continue to provide some calm amidst the chaos. Read on for some of our ideas on how to cultivate self-care in the time of COVID...
Featured Sandtray
This month, we have noticed in the various groups that clinicians are increasingly participating in their own sandtray work, which we all know is vital for renewal, self-care, and personal growth. During this time, we encourage trays focused on self-care, processing what quarantine has been like for you, and what you look forward to following isolation. We have seen powerful trays shared in the and in the Penthouse, and we just want you all to know...we see you, we feel you, and we are right there with you... |
Thanks to Birds On a Wire Counseling for this share, what a powerful depiction of life during COVID-19. Side note: anyone notice the increase in use of fences during this time period?! |
Really this is just a free treat for you, my fellow practitioner, clinician, therapist, dedicated helper of the wounded, etc. etc.
We have discussed how tough things have been, and wanted to really highlight how important self-care is...but the truth is, self-care is HARD and most of us don't even know where to start.
So, with that in mind, we've created a "Sandtray/Self-Care Bingo" sheet that has a bunch of different ideas for when you just need some you-time.
If you joined us in the Sandtray Suite, and are following along in The Penthouse, you will know that last month was alllll about providing sandtray therapy in this new age of Telehealth. We worked to provide "Sandtray-ish" techniques to continue to utilize symbolism and get creative in effort to continue to meet our clients where they are...which is, for most of them, in their homes!
This month in the Sandtray Suite, we are meeting with guest expert Beth Moore to explore working with Adults using sandtray therapy! Beth has some amazing insights and techniques for working with this population, so don't miss out....video goes live TODAY!
